Put a brick in your toilet tank

Have an old toilet without the possibility to choose for a water saving flush? Put a brick (wrapped in plastic) or a plastic bottle full of sand in the toilet tank to reduce the amount of water wasted on every flush!

The volume of the brick or bottle in the water tank will displace an amount of water. This displaced water will be saved every flush reducing a lot of wasted water! A good fix when you don’t have the money to install a low-flow dual flush model! Use the calculator to see how much it can save you!

The calculator is based on the following parameters. Putting a 1,5 liter bottle filled with sand in your toilet tank, you will save 1,5 liters per flush. Based on the water price that you can fill in the calculator and the amount of flushes each day, the calculator is able to give an indication of how much you could save by putting a brick or a bottle filled with sand in your toilet tank.

Extra tips

Apart from putting a brick of bottle filled with sand in your toilet tank you can use below tips to save extra money and reduce your ecological footprint:

  • Install a low-flow dual flush toilet
  • Don't flush at night after every use (at least not after number one, for number two definitely flush!)
  • Check for leaks! If you hear constant running water you are spilling a lot!
  • Drastically want to reduce your water usage? Install a composting toilet!
